Sering seseorang datang kepada kita dan berbagi sakit hati atau pergumulan pribadi dan kita dengan cepat merespons dengan mengatakan, “Saya akan berdoa untuk Anda,” lalu setelah selesai mendengarkan curhatan mereka itu kita pergi seolah-olah kita telah melakukan semua yang kita bisa.
Meskipun berdoa untuk orang lain selalu merupakan hal yang baik untuk dilakukan, mungkin tidak hanya itu yang bisa kita lakukan. Jika kita melihat seseorang yang kesulitan menyeberang karena lalu lintas yang begitu padat duduk di trotoar yang dingin, apakah Anda berkata, “Saya akan berdoa untuk Anda” atau apakah kita menawarkan untuk membantu menyeberangkannya? Jika anak kita jatuh dan kakinya patah, apakah kita hanya mengatakan, “Saya akan berdoa untukmu Nak,” atau apakah kita akan ke dokter atau ke rumah sakit untuk perawatan medis bagi anak kita?
Banyak contoh yang ditunjukkan oleh Tuhan Yesus ketika Dia ada di bumi ini, Sebelum berkhotbah atau menyatakan kebenaran-Nya, Tuhan Yesus memenuhi kebutuhan fisik orang-orang orang-orang yang mendengarnya. Hal itu jelas sesuatu tentang “menghidupkan” kasih Tuhan dan bukan hanya “mengucapkannya”. Kata orang “Jangan OMDO (Omong Doang) tetapi tunjukkan buktinya,” adalah hal baik yang perlu kita renungkan.
Matius 25:35 memberi tahu kita, “Sebab ketika Aku lapar, kamu memberi Aku makan; ketika Aku haus, kamu memberi Aku minum; ketika Aku seorang asing, kamu memberi Aku tumpangan;” Dan dalam Matius 25:40 kita diberitahu, Dan Raja itu akan menjawab mereka: Aku berkata kepadamu, sesungguhnya segala sesuatu yang kamu lakukan untuk salah seorang dari saudara-Ku yang paling hina ini, kamu telah melakukannya untuk Aku.
“Pekerjaan orang Kristen dalam hidup ini adalah untuk mewakili Kristus kepada dunia, dalam kehidupan dan karakter yang menyatakan Yesus. Jika Allah telah memberi kita terang, itu adalah agar kita dapat menyatakannya kepada orang lain.” (Ellen G. White, Testimonies, jld. 5, hlm. 744).
“Kita tidak boleh salah menggambarkan apa yang kita akui kita percayai untuk mendapatkan kebaikan. Allah membenci penggambaran yang salah dan pemutarbalikkan. Ia tidak akan bertoleransi terhadap orang yang berkata tetapi tidak melakukan. Pekerjaan yang paling baik dan paling mulia dikerjakan oleh usaha-usaha yang adil dan jujur. “ (Ellen G. White, Letter, 232, 1899)
Yakobus 2:17 “Demikian juga halnya dengan iman: Jika iman itu tidak disertai perbuatan, maka iman itu pada hakekatnya adalah mati.”
Hari ini, mari kita memohon kecurahan Roh Kudus Tuhan sehingga kita bukan saja dimampukan untuk bersikap baik, murah hati, ramah, tetapi dimampukan juga dalam perbuatan kita. Kiranya perbuatan kita lebih manis dan nyaring dari semua kata-kata indah kita.
